Special Notice

Hello Steven, my name is Darrell Richardson I am the maintenance supervisor at Stone Mtn. State Park. I understand you will be having a program in the campground this weekend. I will need your co-operation in helping us to maintain our sewer field. We had to spend several hundred dollars to repair the sewer field this past winter partly due to the system not working correctly creating a problem with surfacing fluids and partially due to vehicle traffic on the sewer field itself. I would greatly appreciate it if you will help by keeping vehicles out of the area below the cement exposed dosing tank. Any traffic below this area can and has damaged our tail lines. I appreciate your help in keeping vehicles out of this area. I hope the weather is good for your program. This will need to be adhered to from now on into the future. Thanks again, Darrell Richardson MMIV Stone Mountain State Park

Hi FAS: Since a telescope is not required to observe clouds, the event April 24th is officially CANCELED. Some day, I fully expect to have good weather for an observation at the museum. Don

SciWorks Public Observation

Hi FAS:

Can you believe that we will actually have weather good enough to pull off an observation! It may not be perfect, but it looks the best it has in a long while, so the observation will go on as scheduled. I plan on getting there around 7 or so , and I hope to see you there. I have contacted all 3 local TV stations, but that is no guarantee they will mention it , but if they do, we could have a large turn out. There was also a notice posted in the library about the event, giving us even more exposure.

Hope to see you this evening!

Don

  • The next FAS meeting will feature a planetarium show called StarDate: Ancient Horizons. This presents the ancient Egyptian view of the cosmos, with information on mythology and constellations, and the creation of a calendar. This will be followed by a summer sky tour by Justin Nichols of SciWorks.
  • FYI - “Jupiter and Neptune will be at there closest to each other on May 26—just 0.4 degrees apart. It’s interesting that on this anniversary year for Galileo that he was actually the first person to observe Neptune. It was in the same field of view as Jupiter in his telescope just as it will be for us this May. He made a note of it but never realized that he was looking at another planet.” - Buddy
