Tuesday, October 11, 7:00 PM, the Porter B. Byrum Welcome Center will host a free public screening of Luminous, directed by Wake Forest alumnus Sam Smartt (BA ’09, MFA ’13).
This film tells the story of Astronomy Professor Larry Molnar who believes he can find the unfindable – a star that is about to explode. When Professor Molnar and a small team of students stumble across a strange star, they embark on a dramatic journey of scientific discovery, others in the astronomical community are skeptical and Professor Molnar’s professional reputation hangs in the balance. In production since 2014, Luminous follows Professor Molnar’s journey to test his unprecedented prediction, knowing that its success or failure will unfold squarely in the international astronomical community spotlight.
A reception will be held at 6:00 p.m. followed by the film screening at 7:00 p.m. A Q & A with the director will take place immediately following the screening.
