WEATHER UPDATE: The astronomy activities are canceled due to forecasted clouds and rain. WFDD’s Look Up and Listen event will take place regardless of the weather.
On Saturday, November 5, Forsyth Astronomical Society will host an astronomy observation for WFDD radio at Hanging Rock State Park. Sunset is at 6:20 PM, WFDD will start their program at 6:30, and it should be dark enough to observe around 7:00. The moon will be 90% full, but both Saturn and Jupiter will be up.
The observing site is in the parking lot near the lake, at the end of Hanging Rock Park Road, which is shown on the map below. Please note this is a ticketed event. While open to the public, it is not free. Tickets must be purchased from WFDD. As part of the event, WFDD will provide fire pits and everything to make s’mores, along with a special audio program.
WFDD’s program takes place regardless of weather, but the astronomy portion of this event is weather dependent. This post and the FAS Facebook page will be updated with the final weather call by Saturday morning.
