January 2025 FAS Meeting (Wednesday, January 8)

Please join us for the January meeting of the Forsyth Astronomical Society at 7:30 on Wednesday, January 8. The meeting will be held at the new Kaleideum at 120 West 3rd Street downtown in Winston-Salem, NC.

The January program will be presented by FAS member Steve Stultz.

Please join us for a recap of AAVSO’s (American Association of Variable star observers) annual conference held last November 2024 in Huntsville Alabama – Home of Space Camp and US Space and Rocket Center. We toured the exhibits at the rocket center and viewed Dr. John Blevin’s (Chief Engineer for Nasa’s Space Launch System) presentation on history and future of NASA rockets. The keynote speaker was Dr. Sukanya Chakabat, who discussed the observational strategy to directly measure galactic accelerations found in her paper The Precision Frontier Of Dark Matter Constraints From Direct Acceleration Measurements. Don’t be late.

You don’t have to be a member to attend. If you’re curious and have an interest in astronomy and the universe, come on out! Of course, you can come just for the donuts.

The doors to the building will open at 7:00 pm. The doors will reman locked. Someone will be there to let you in.

We will meet in the 1st floor La STEAM B room. Enter through the side entrance (Members and Group entrance on the left). Go straight ahead into the meeting room.

When leaving, go out through the same side door and make sure the door is closed tightly behind you.

Please DO NOT wander throughout the building – The exhibits are NOT open.
