On Saturday, March 8, the Forsyth Astronomical Society will host a free public astronomy observation at the Meadowview Magnet Middle School (MMMS) in Mount Airy. MMMS is a STEM Magnet School and the county’s Science Institute. The event will begin at 7:30 PM and conclude at 10:00 PM.
The school is located at 1282 McKinney Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. From Winston-Salem, take US-52 north to exit 140, I-74 west. Continue on I-74 to exit 11, US 601. At the end of the ramp, turn right and take the first left onto McKinney Road (across from Sheetz). Continue 2.3 miles to the school, which is on the right. For more detail, see Google Maps.
Park in the visitor lots in front of the school. Telescopes will be set up in the field to the back right of the buildings.
This event is weather-dependent, and a weather update will be posted on our website (fas37.org) and on our Facebook page the evening before the event.
As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please refrain from using white flashlights near the telescopes. Red light flashlights are welcome.
