Public observation at Pilot Mountain on February 11

WEATHER UPDATE

This event is canceled. The forecast calls for clouds and a rain/snow mix on Saturday night.

==========

On Saturday, February 11, Forsyth Astronomical Society, Kaleideum, and the rangers of Pilot Mountain State Park will host a free public astronomy observation at Pilot Mountain State Park. This event will run from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If conditions are good enough, several planets and deep sky objects should be visible, along with a potential glimpse of comet ZTF. This event is weather-dependent, and this post and the FAS Facebook page will be updated with the weather decision the evening before the event.

The observing site is in the summit parking lot. Parking at the summit is limited, so carpooling is recommended. As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please turn off your headlights and drive slowly with just your parking lights when you reach the summit parking lot. Dress warmly, because the summit of Pilot Mountain can be much colder and more windy than the surrounding area.
