WEATHER UPDATE: Our public observation at Pilot Mountain will take place. The forecast remains very favorable for viewing, however it will be cold, so dress warmly.
On Friday, November 3, the Forsyth Astronomical Society, Kaleideum, and the rangers of Pilot Mountain State Park will host a free public astronomy observation at Pilot Mountain State Park. The event will begin at 7:30 PM and conclude at 10:30 pm.
If conditions permit, the planets Jupiter and Saturn, along with several deep sky objects, should be visible.
This event is weather-dependent, and this post along with the FAS Facebook page will be updated with the weather decision the evening before the event.
This event is free and open to the public. The observing site is in the summit parking lot. Parking at the summit is limited, so carpooling is recommended. As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please turn off your headlights and drive slowly with just your parking lights when you reach the summit parking lot. Dress warmly, because the summit of Pilot Mountain can be much colder and windier than the surrounding area.
