Public observation at Stone Mountain on March 11

WEATHER UPDATE

This event will take place. The forecast calls for intermittent clouds during the evening.

==========

On Saturday, March 11, Forsyth Astronomical Society will host a public astronomy observation at Stone Mountain State Park. Sunset is at 6:27 PM and it should be dark enough to observe by 7:30 PM. This event is weather-dependent. This post and the FAS Facebook page will be updated with the weather decision the evening before the event.

The observing site is in the field behind A Loop campsite 33, which is shown on the map below. The observing site is accessible by using the grass walkway between campsites 33 and 34. Please be respectful and do not walk through occupied campsites. To preserve everyone’s night vision, please refrain from using flashlights or cell phones in the observation area. If you must use a light, shield it with your hand and point it down, and turn it off when you reach the field.

If you are a non-camping attendee, please park at the A Loop bathhouse, along the access roads away from campsites and intersections, or at the campground office. Visitors not camping must leave the park when FAS leaves.

To those attending with telescopes, the campground is prone to heavy dew, so plan accordingly. No vehicles are allowed past the concrete structure in the middle of the field.
