Update 4/8: The observation atop Pilot Mountain had been canceled due to inclement weather. The non-observation related activities are still happening. So, if you’re looking for a family friendly event for the early evening there will still be plenty to do.
The Forsyth Astronomical Society will be participating in two observations for Morehead Planetarium’s Statewide Star Party in April. Both of these events are free and open to the public. On Friday, April 8, we will be in the summit parking lot of Pilot Mountain State Park from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The park will have various activities available in addition to the astronomy observation. Due to limited parking availability, Pilot Mountain asks that you carpool and arrive early. On Saturday, April 9, we will be at Kaleideum North in Winston-Salem from sunset (about 7:45 PM) to 10:00 PM. These are weather-dependent events. The FAS website and Facebook page will be updated with the weather call and status the evening before each event. More information about the Statewide Star Party can be found at https://ncsciencefestival.org/
We are super excited to offer public events again. Outreach is a huge part of our club and not being able to share our love and excitement of the night skies has been a blow to morale. So, tell your friends and family. Hope to see you all.
