FAS members Chip and Vivian Bast host this event for the Stone Mountain campers. The FAS events are well supported by the park ranger and the dark skies are enjoyed by campers of all ages. There is often a good turnout at these star gazing events, so please bring your scopes! The moon will be in 1st quarter and visible for all events as well.
The webmasters will try to keep the web site updated, but sometimes
there is no connection or phone signals at Stone Mountain:
- Park office (8:00am-5:00pm) –336–957-8185 Call before 5:00pm to check for cancelation because of weather.
- Vivian or Chip: contact at fas@fas37.org or on the club Face book site.
- Observations at Stone Mountain are for campers only, but any FAS club members who don’t want to camp but just come to help and set up scopes will be let out of the gate to return home when the observation is over.
Telescopes are set up in the open field behind campsite #33. (Chip and Viv will be camping at site #33 ) There are some really great views! Times are sunset to about 11:00pm, but are often done by 10:00pm because of dew and the campers often come early. Travel time to the State Park is just over 1 hour from Winston-Salem via US-421 N.
