By Bob Patsiga

In this month’s edition of the newsletter Bob discusses:

  • The privately run Space X program has sent the Crew Dragon capsule to the International Space Station with a load of supplies. The capsule was returned safely back to Earth. The crew capsule is intended to be used for future manned space flights.
  • Mars InSight Lander began digging into the Martian surface on Feb. 28, but the digging probe hit a very hard subsurface layer and had to stop operation. Plans are underway to avoid the barrier.
  • Astronomers have discovered the most distant dwarf planet. It is located in the Kuiper Belt at a distance that is three-and-a-half times the distance to Pluto.
  • All About Galaxies: This is a continuation of the article which appeared in the March issue of the Newsletter.
  • The nearest star system to us is located in the constellation Centaurus. It is a three-star group that contains the nearest star, Proxima Centauri.
  • Astronomical Birthdays in April.
  • Celestial happenings for the month of April.
  • FAS events for the month.
